Every week we interview women about how they incorporate active and healthy habits into their lives. We believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to health and fitness, so we aim to capture the variety of ways women choose to be active to give you ideas and inspiration on how to live your best active life.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Tia Provost, I am 26 years old and a full-time model.

I have just recently this year moved back to Australia form living in London for the past 4 years. I am currently down on the south coast, at my home town Ulladulla, traveling up to Sydney as needed for work.

I love being out in nature, being around as many animals as I can, latin dancing, getting in the kitchen cooking up a storm, and being around amazing people!!

One of my biggest passions though - is travelling and meeting new people! Experiencing different cultures and how we are so different yet so similar.

What does active living mean to you?

Moving. We’re born to move.

In today's society with the way technology is advancing we’re forgetting the basic fundamental - movement.

There are so many things keeping us stagnate, locked to our screens. All we need to do is get up and about and start getting that fresh air into our bodies and working out the kinks.

What do you like to do to stay active?

I love taking my dog, Buddah, walking! It benefits both of us, he needs to run and it gets me out. But seeing him run round the bush happy as larry brings such joy to my heart! I find myself laughing and giggling away (we play hide and go seek together)

I just enjoy being out in nature. So if I get the chance to go on walks in the bush or on the beach, or climb mountains I jump at it.

And any chance to go latin dancing – it’s the one thing I stay up late for! Once I arrive I get straight on the dance floor and I don't leave until my friends are forcing me out.

When I can I do really enjoy getting some yoga classes in too.

Have you always been active and healthy?

No not at all. I never liked exercising - hated it in fact!

I never liked people seeing me workout, I sweat a lot and I get really red and blotchy all across my neck and face etc, actually still do when I’m really pushing my body haha

I wouldn't say that I like it now…but I am more accepting of it. I understand that to have a healthy body, one that I’m going to live in for a very long time, I need to move and be active.

I’m lucky that I’ve always loved salad and veggies.

What is your daily or weekly routine?

I don't really have one. I do what I can when I can, and I don't feel guilty for not doing something everyday. Sometimes I can’t do anything for a week, sometimes it’s a month or more - and that’s ok. I make sure that I fuel my body accordingly to keep it clean and moving when I can’t physically be moving.

What daily habits keep you fit and healthy?

Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! And plenty of sleep :)

I have always been a big water drinker and will normally get 3L into me.

I sip on hot water throughout the day as it is amazing at helping to rid toxins from your system and I’ll also add some Apple Cider Vinegar to my water and drink that as it is great for ridding toxins too.

My friends joke that I’m such a grandma because I eat dinner by 5:30 and don't eat after 8pm and I like to try to be in bed by 9:30/10pm, but I love it! I will turn my phone off before bed and remove my electronics from my room to allow for a deep sleep and to stop the EMFs.

I will always start my day with either a juice at mid morning (I cant eat as soon as I’ve woken up, especially when I have an extremely early start) or an apple, nothing heavy on my body.

What is your best active living hack?

Find something that you love and enjoy and you wont get bored with it or slack off - that goes for everything in life! Just do what makes you happy!!!

As I’ve said - didn't like exercising but I LOVE latin dancing, which is a massive workout! I’m always feeling it a few days after.

It’s super important to stretch! So important but not many people do, or they just tend to stretch at the beginning when they’re muscles are cold. If you have done a workout then you need to take the time at the end to really stretch your body out properly.

I also find that if I have someone else depending on me then I'm less likely to cancel or put it off. When its just me I tend to fall into the ‘oh I just have to do this, I’ll do it this arvo’, or ‘I’ll do it then’…and ’then’ never comes. Whereas if I’ve made an appointment with someone I can’t let them down or disappoint them so I make sure I make it

What does a sample workout look like for you?

Walking my dog is my most regular workout. And it’s great for my entire body.

Where I am living at the moment has stairs, so when I can, in the morning I will pop on some music and walk up and down them for 3 songs, then do a few leg exercises and squats. Plank is always a really good one too! It’s a killer but good whole body workout.

Favourite healthy meal?

I am a massive salad and veggie fan! And juicing! BIG juicer!

I am gluten free, which I actually love. I was never a big sandwich or pasta fan - for me it was all about my sweet tooth, so when I found out I was GF it wasn't a problem cutting all that from my lifestyle.

My body feels alive when I eat food that’s alive. So just think - ‘would I find biscuits out in the wild growing? Would I find pizza?’ (don’t get me wrong I LOVE pizza…when it’s my dads homemade! :D)

So I eat foods as close to its natural form as I can. The more something has been processed, the less nutrients you will have.

Big crunchy salads with avo; apple; cucumber; grated carrot and beetroot; tomato; sultanas/roasted nuts. Just whatever I have on hand really.

What challenges do you need to overcome in order to achieve healthy and active living?

It is hard when ‘natural’ and ‘organic’ food (the way our grandparents ate and how we should be eating) is so much more expensive than ‘unhealthy processed’ food is, and also not as readily available.

Also - time. There’s so many things I want to do but it just runs away from me and I find that I don't have enough hours in the day, or I don't use them correctly.

What is the best ‘side-effect’ of staying healthy and active?

Physical, mental and emotional health. Whether you realise it or not exercising does help you to process and sort your feelings out.

Of course the more you exercise the more you start to feel great, you become more energetic and better in your self on all 3 levels.

What (or who) inspires and motivates you?

I’ve realised recently that the person who needs to inspire and motivate me, is myself. If I want to see change, it has to start with me. I can only improve and work to better myself, to be the best version of me there is.

How do you overcome negative thoughts?

My mind is constantly going a million miles and hour, and sometimes it’s hard. I am a very easy-going happy person, but my mind is extremely stubborn. And sometimes you just need to accept and let yourself feel the way you do, only then can you start to move forward and through it. I have an amazing support system around me in the form of friends and family who help keep me grounded and are there for me at the drop of a hat. I’m extremely lucky.

Sometimes all you want to do is just vent, but to a soul not a brick wall.

I find that if I go and place my bare feet out on the grass and sit patting my dog, it not only helps re-ground me but changes my mood as I cant help but be happy around Buddah

How do you manage days or periods where you are not as motivated?

Listen to your body. That is the key to everything. Your body knows exactly what it wants and needs. Respect how it feels, if your body is telling you to rest then do exactly just that. You don't want to push it too far and end up doing damage to yourself.

What do you do to treat yourself?

I think a new addition to your wardrobe after you've been really good and starting to see results is always a great treat but also motivation to keep going.

Top 3 songs on your workout playlist?

If I'm walking my dog in nature I like listening to the natural soundtrack around me, the birds singing; the wind rustling through the leaves; the sounds of animals scurrying around…

Anything with a good beat that’ll get me moving and distract me from what I’m doing:

Bliss n Eso - Addicted

Beyonce - Get Me Bodied (anything by B really!)

Don Omar - Danza Kuduro (latin music and RnB get me really in the mood)

What is your active truth?

I believe in balance for what is right for your individual body. Don't deny yourself what your body is asking for but understand and listen as to why you are having that craving and then address it with the appropriate action.

Also, don't compare where you're at on your journey to where someone else is on theirs - you have both started at different spots and different times, you have different obstacles to overcome, so just focus on your path and living every moment as full as you can.

Where can we see more of you?

I am starting to work on my YouTube channel which I’m really excited about! I have some projects in the pipeline that are going to be really inspiring, motivational and positive. I think they will benefit quite a few individuals (I hope!! :D) and I can’t wait to share them out there!

They are going to be focused on just YouYube so if you like subscribe to stay up-to-date on the release!

I have also created a website where I will be posting my natural beauty bits and cooking (all when I get time!)
