Some collections start with a trend. This one started 45 years ago.
Long before Active Truth, there was wool.
I grew up in Hamilton, in Victoria's Western District, a place often known as the Wool Capital of the World. My family had a sheep property just outside Dunkeld, at the foot of the Grampians, where wool wasn't something you thought twice about. It was simply part of everyday life.
Winter mornings were cold. Really cold.
Heavy frosts, single-digit temperatures and icy winds were all part of growing up. You still had animals to feed, jobs to do and places to be. You didn't wait for the weather to improve, you just reached for another layer.
And that layer was almost always wool.
Some of my favourite childhood memories are from the shearing shed with my grandparents. Watching the fleeces being skirted and classed, helping at lamb marking, sliding down the sheep chute and proudly delivering morning tea to the shearers. At the time, I was convinced it was the most important job on the farm.
Then there was my Nan.
She never went through winter without a wool beanie, and she made sure I didn't either. A warm head was non-negotiable, whether it matched my outfit or not.
Looking back, those moments shaped how I think about clothing today.
