Have you ever tried on a one-piece swimsuit that seemed to fit everywhere except through the length of your body?
The size looks right. The swimsuit goes on. But then the straps pull down on your shoulders. The armholes dig in. Your bust feels compressed. The leg line sits higher than you expected, and no amount of adjusting can stop the front or back wedgie.
You may have spent years thinking one-piece swimsuits simply do not work for your body.
But the problem might not be the style, or your size. You may simply need more length through the torso.
It is one of the most common questions our Customer Service team receives:
“Will the Coolum fit a long torso?”
We have been listening. Now we can finally say yes.
Introducing the Coolum Core Support Long Torso One Piece
Our bestselling Coolum Core Support One Piece is now here in a new Long Torso fit.
The Coolum Core Support Long Torso has approximately 7.5 cm of extra length through the body. Importantly, we have not simply stretched the entire swimsuit.
The additional length has been carefully graded through the front, middle, bust and back, with adjustability considered throughout. It is the Coolum women already know and love, reworked for those who need more room through the body.
It is available in classic Black and Navy, along with five brand-new colours.
Our first release is available in super limited quantities while we learn which colours and sizes you want most. If you have been waiting for a long torso Coolum, we recommend shopping early.
What does “long torso” actually mean?
Having a long torso does not necessarily mean you are tall.
Torso length is about your proportions, rather than your overall height. You can be tall with a comparatively short torso, or petite with more of your height carried through your body.
This is why two women of the same height and clothing size can have completely different experiences in the same one-piece swimsuit. One may have plenty of room through the body, while the other feels as though the swimsuit is pulling from both ends.
You might also see long torso swimsuits described as long body swimwear, tall swimsuits or long-length one pieces. The wording varies, but the goal is the same: providing more room through the body without requiring you to size up everywhere else.
How can you tell if you have a long torso?
There is no single visual rule that applies to every body. Often, the easiest way to tell is by noticing how one-piece clothing fits you.
You may benefit from a long torso swimsuit if:
-
One-piece swimsuits regularly pull down on your shoulders
-
Straps feel tight even after you adjust them
-
The armholes dig in or feel as though they are being pulled upwards
-
Your bust is compressed or sits lower than the intended bust area
-
The leg opening sits much higher than expected
-
The crotch pulls or feels uncomfortable
-
You experience persistent front or back wedgies
-
Bodysuits, jumpsuits and playsuits also tend to feel too short
-
You size up to gain length, only to find the swimsuit becomes loose elsewhere
One symptom alone does not automatically mean you have a long torso. Strap length, swimsuit cut and sizing can also affect fit. But if several of these problems happen repeatedly across different one-piece styles, torso length may be the missing piece of the puzzle.
Signs your one-piece swimsuit is too short in the torso
A one-piece swimsuit should feel secure, but secure should not mean spending the entire day fighting with it.
If a swimsuit is too short through the body, you will often feel tension running vertically from the crotch to the shoulders. You may find yourself pulling the front upwards for more bust coverage, only to make the bottom ride up. Pulling it back down simply transfers that pressure to your shoulders or bust.
This can create a frustrating cycle:
You pull it up.
It rides up.
You pull it down.
The straps dig in.
You adjust your bust.
Everything shifts again.
If that sounds familiar, the answer may not be a larger size. You may need the same general fit with additional body length.
Should you size up if a swimsuit is too short?
Sizing up can sometimes give you a little more length, but it also adds room in other areas.
That may leave you with gaping around the bust, back or leg openings, or with less of the secure fit you wanted in the first place. If your usual size feels right around your bust, waist and hips but pulls vertically through the body, a long torso one piece may be a better place to start.
Always check the individual product’s size guide and fit advice before choosing your size.
Why we did not simply stretch the Coolum
Adding length to a one-piece swimsuit is more considered than making every part of it longer.
Bodies do not grow evenly in every direction, and the point at which one woman needs more room may differ from another. That is why approximately 7.5 cm of extra length has been carefully graded through the front, middle, bust and back of the new Coolum Long Torso.
The aim was to preserve what women love about the original Coolum while giving long torso customers the extra body length they have been asking us for.
Because women should not have to choose between support and a swimsuit that is long enough.
Long torso does not mean one body type
Long torsos exist across different heights, sizes and shapes.
You might have a long torso and a fuller bust. You might be petite. You might be tall. You might only have realised you need a longer fit after years of avoiding one pieces altogether.
This is exactly why we design by listening to women.
Active Truth began because we were tired of clothing that looked good in a campaign but did not account for the bodies wearing it in real life. The Coolum Long Torso is another step towards giving more women a swimsuit that works with their proportions.

Frequently asked questions about long torso swimsuits
What is a long torso swimsuit?
A long torso swimsuit is a one-piece swimsuit made with additional length through the body. It is designed for women who find standard one pieces too short between the shoulders and crotch.
Do you have to be tall to need long torso swimwear?
No. Long torso fit is about body proportions, not overall height. Women of any height can have a longer torso and need extra length in a one-piece swimsuit.
How do I know if my swimsuit is too short in the torso?
Common signs include pulling at the shoulders, straps digging in, pressure under the arms, bust compression, a higher-than-expected leg line, crotch pulling and persistent front or back wedgies.
Why does my one-piece swimsuit keep riding up?
A swimsuit may ride up because it is too short through the body, although its size, cut and leg shape can also affect the fit. If it fits around your bust, waist and hips but feels tight vertically, you may need a long torso option.
Will adjustable straps fix a swimsuit that is too short?
Adjustable straps can help fine-tune the fit, but they cannot always compensate for a significant lack of length through the body. Loosening the straps may reduce shoulder pressure without fixing pulling elsewhere.
Should I size up for a longer torso?
No. A larger size may add some length, but it also adds width and can create gaping or reduce support. Start with the brand’s size guide and choose a long torso version when available.
How much longer is the Coolum Core Support Long Torso?
It has approximately 7.5 cm of additional length. This has been carefully graded through the front, middle, bust and back rather than added by simply stretching the whole swimsuit.
What colours will the Coolum Long Torso come in?
The first release includes Black, Navy, Dark Cherry, Khaki, Orange Pop, Hot Pink and Emerald. You can shop the full range in our Long Torso Swimwear collection.
